… an island that still feels untouched

Go to Lombok —
If You Love Yourself…
If ocean waves sound like music to your ears…
If holding hands and walking quietly on the sand stimulates your senses…
If you can trade loud conversations for silence…
And if you want to practise shinrin-yoku — the Japanese art of mindfully engaging your senses with nature — then Lombok might just be the place for you.
Lombok is not a destination you rush through. It is a place you surrender to. An island where the sea, the breeze, the rustling palms and the endless blue seem to gently remind you that life doesn’t always have to move fast.
Senggigi & The Gili Islands
Just a 45-minute flight or a couple of hours by ferry from Bali, Lombok feels like stepping into a different rhythm.
We chose a fast ferry from Serangan, Bali, to Senggigi. The journey itself was comfortable with spacious seating indoors and an upper deck where we could feel the sea breeze and watch the horizon stretch.
Our hotel car was waiting at the port, and within five minutes we were at Sheraton Senggigi Beach resort.
There was no grand agenda.
No sightseeing checklist.
Our intention was simple: Do nothing.

We wanted to feel the sand beneath our feet, listen to the sea, breathe in the cool breeze and watch the day simply go by.
Our resort had everything we had imagined for complete relaxation — beautifully manicured gardens, swimming pool, swaying palms, a private beach, sun loungers, cabanas and multiple restaurants, all overlooking the sea.
There was nowhere we needed to be. And that felt wonderful.
And then Lombok gave us something we handn’t expected.
A Tiny Turtle and a Big Memory🐢

Oh my God — I could actually hold baby turtles in my hand! They were tiny, fragile and impossibly adorable.
Lombok has strong tradition of turtle conservation, with local groups protecting nests and helping hatchlings make their way safely into the ocean. We were incredibly lucky to be part of that journey and watched six tiny turtles make their way towards the ocean.
Sometimes travel gives you spectacular views.
And sometimes, it gives you a tiny turtle in the palm of your hand.
The latter can be just as unforgettable.
The Gili Islands — A World Beneath the Blue
Being on the west coast of Lombok also meant that one of the most spectacular experiences was right on our doorsteps — Gili Islands
Just a short boatride away, Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan are famous for their turquoise waters, white-sand beaches and amazing marine life. And perhaps what makes them even more charming is their wonderfully laid-back way of life.
There are no motor vehicles on the islands. Bicycles and traditional horse-drawn carts are the only forms of transport, adding to the charm of a place where life seems to move at slower, gentler pace.

We set sail at 9 a.m. from the harbour in a private glass-bottom boat, accompanied by our captain and our wonderfully cheerful guide, Kamalkar. He bonded with us almost instantly and made sure the day was filled with laughter and fun.
One thing that fascinated us was how much the locals love Bollywood. They watch Hindi movies and have their favourite Bollywood stars, even though many don’t actually understand Hindi. It was a delightful little cultural connection we hadn’t expected to find in the middle of Indonesia.
But the real magic of the Gili Islands was beneath the surface.
We came looking for blue waters.
We found an entire world beneath them.
The moment we slipped into the crystal-clear turquoise water, everything else disappeared.
The noise of world faded.
Colourful fish moved effortlessly through coral gardens. Sunlight filtered through the water, creating constantly changing patterns of light and shadow.
And then came the turtles.
Swimming calmly beside us. Completely indifferent to our presence as though we were are just another part of the ocean.
We snorkelled through coral gardens.
We swam with tropical fish.
And at Gili Meno, we descended into another kind of underwater wonder – the famous ring of human sculptures resting on the ocean floor. The statues create an almost surreal underwater scene.
It felt less like sightseeing and more like entering another world.
The Gili Islands are not simply about beautiful beaches. They are about what lies beneath them that makes them unforgettable.
Kuta Lombok — The Luxury of Time
If Senggigi introduced us to Lombok, Kuta taught us how to stay.

Luxury is often described as sprawling villas, fine dining, private pools or expensive cars. But we realised that perhaps the rarest luxury is something much simpler: Having nowhere to be.
For two weeks at Novotel Lombok Resort & Villas, we had no itinerary, no list of places to tick off, no hurry to wake up early and rush out. The days unfolded naturally and we flowed with the rhythm of the island. And it was liberating.
Mornings began slowly — sunlight filtering through the trees, coffee by the bay window and a leisurely breakfast without checking the clock. There was no pressure to “make the most” of the day. Because the day itself was the experience.
We spent hours beneath traditional thatched-roof cabanas, sipping fresh coconut water, reading, snoozing and listening to the sound of the waves.
Sometimes we lingered by the pool.
Sometimes we took a cooling swim.
Sometimes we watched surfers riding distant waves.
And sometimes, we simply sat there. Doing absolutely nothing.
We admired the traditional Sasak-inspired architecture, wandered along the beach and allowed the ocean to become our entertainment.
A quiet beach walk could become the highlight of the day.

A perfect sunset needed no plan.
And evenings at Breeze Bar, cocktails in hand, watching the sky turn darker and the stars slowly appear, felt like enough, day after day.
There was something incredibly calming about watching the colours of the sky change without needing to photograph every moment.
We simply watched. And somehow, that felt like living.
This was not a vacation – it was a reminder to slow down. Time stretched differently here. The usual chaos of city life and daily chores replaced by the simple pleasure of being present.

Some days we explored nearby beaches and the beautiful island landscapes. Other days, we did absolutely nothing. And those were often the most memorable. Sitting on the beach facing turquoise water was difficult to beat.
Honsestly, I found Lombok worked as a Mental Reset. It transitioned us from simply visiting a destination to actually living at the pace of the island.
For those days, we weren’t tourists trying to see everything. We were simply people enjoying each day as it came.
It reminded us that life is best experienced when we pause, slow down and simply be.
This, for us, was the true meaning of island luxury:
Not more activities, but more awareness.
Not a packed itinerary, but a peaceful mind.
Not chasing moments, but allowing moments to find us.
And perhaps that is why Lombok stayed with us long after we left.
It taught us that the most unforgettable journeys are not always with packed itineraries.
Sometimes, they are the ones where the only plan… is to have no plan. 🌴✨
And Then Came the Surprise…
We had absolutely no idea that we were staying right next to the Mandalika International Circuit.
The famous racing circuit is located in Kuta Lombok and, as luck would have it, we happened to be there when participants were practising.
What surprised us even more was that entry to watch the practice sessions was free.
So, one moment we were sitting peacefully by the sea…
And the next, we were watching racing machines roar around one of the world’s most scenic circuits.
It was an unexpected contrast to the slow, tranquil rhythm of our Lombok holiday — and a perfect little surprise at the end of our stay.
Because perhaps that is Lombok too.
Quiet when you want silence.
Adventurous when you want excitement.
Beautiful when you simply want to breathe.
And if you ask me whether you should go to Lombok…
